Shannon Belock

Shannon Belock is a multi-interdisciplinary artist who approaches each medium with distinct intention. At Snakestone Studios, her work centers on self-excavation through paper collage, sometimes taken a step further into fiber tapestries. She also brings her fiber-collage practice into the realm of fashion, cutting up recycled clothing and sewing the pieces onto fresh t shirts to create wearable desert motifs, each one entirely unique. This practice also helps keep fast fashion castoffs out of landfills. She says, “You’re welcome.”

Outside the gallery, Shannon paints murals inspired by Feng Shui and creates animated shorts, both hand drawn and 2D puppet stop motion. Her animated work is inspired by health, humor, and happiness. Though self taught as a painter, she picked up some pretty sweet faux finish techniques for interiors while working with the Crate & Barrel art department. Before that, she studied animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she earned her BFA in 2016.

After Covid hit, Shannon left the big city in 2020 to reconnect with her desert roots in Tucson. She now splits her time between Tucson and Truth or Consequences, traveling with her husband, the famous chocolate maker behind Monsoon Chocolate. Finding time to create art amidst the chaos of everyday life is a constant battle, but one she finds totally worth fighting. She looks forward to the day she can finally pay off those fancy pants art school loans and focus on creating more animated films.
