David Barnett

MA painting and printmaking, New Mexico Highlands University, 1967. I paint in oils exclusively. Presently, I deal with landscape-inspired pieces. I have lived in New Mexico since 1962. I taught art in Carlsbad, NM schools for 31 years. In retirement I have had time to focus on my painting, having been away from it for several years. In 1994, I picked up the brush and began a long climb back into the craft. My philosophy is straight forward: Art is the giving of form to one’s experience of existence. In doing this, I must have had a personal visual encounter with that I wish to paint. I don’t attempt to “improve” on nature, I just try follow nature and somehow do it justice in how I choose to interpret it.
